Do I need Pilates experience to do your classes?
Not necessarily. Anyone can join the classes, you’ll pick up the focus from my plentiful verbal cues (important for online classes). It is worth noting, I teach quite a dynamic class with lots of movement. I do offer regressions to the bigger, more demanding moves. Please contact me if you have any particular areas of concern.
What do I need to get started?
You need a nice thick mat, cushioned for Pilates (please see ‘Which mat for Pilates?’. I do rotate between the small equipment; Overball, small weights, resistance band and loop band. You can totally improvise before investing into these (all reasonably priced). Small cushion instead of ball, tinned food instead of weights.. or, just go prop free at the start. Please find my suggested equipment here. Don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
Which screen is best to do an online class?
Personally, if you have access to a laptop, I find this the most convenient. The biggest portable screen. I have done a “How to; online classes” video explaining my preferred set up. Second choice would be an iPad or TV.
How long are your classes?
My regular classes are 45 minutes on a Tuesday, and around 55 minutes on a Friday. This means, most of the on demand library of classes are these durations. There are also classes ranging from 15 - 30 minutes too. If you have any requests, I will endeavour to provide.
Do I need to keep my camera on for live online classes?
This is absolutely your choice, I want you to feel comfortable. It’s worth noting that other participants see me mainly on the screen.
What if I miss an online class?
That’s no problem at all, all sessions are recorded and uploaded on the same day of the live class, meaning you can catch up anytime.
Do you do any in person classes?
I offer website members a preferential rate for adhoc classes. If you’re local, it’s a great idea to come for a session now and then… we will run through the fundamentals and check form, discussions and movement encouraged.
Can I pause / cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes, to pause, just pop me an email and it’s one click on my end, to cancel, you can do it yourself on the website, Log In to your Members area.
Should I go for Live & On Demand or On Demand Only membership?
If you are available for the live class times (Tuesdays and Fridays 9.30am - term time), it is definitely preferential for accountability. Please note, your subscription includes access to either, or both of the online weekly sessions. If you can’t make these times, use the On Demand Only subscription and complete the classes in your own time.
How do I join the live classes?
Once you sign up for the ‘Live & On Demand’ subscription, this will give you access to the Zoom details on the website. You can either join directly from there, or make a note of the Zoom details to join each week.
Which mat for Pilates?
Pilates mats are thicker than your average Yoga mat. This is so we can cushion the spine, knees, wrists, hips, not to mention balancing on the sitting bones! Our mats tend to be a minimum of 8mm thick, up to 15mm. Bear in mind when we do the standing work, especially single leg, this can make it more of a balance challenge (good strength work), so if you need to regress (I often do) step off the thicker mat or layers.
Feel free to layer up with what you have, thin mats, add a towel, or use softer flooring where possible.
Other classes
Private one to ones or semi-privates are available, discounted for website members. Please contact me for pricing and availability - this is suggested to do periodically if you live near enough, check your form in person, break down any moves you're struggling with, we can go through a basic class and have time for questions and discussions. Grab a friend and make it a semi-private.
Corporate sessions: a great way to focus on wellness and team building, we work on strength and stretch with a particular focus on office desk posture. 45 minute sessions available, please contact me for pricing and availability.
